Product Overview

The Triconex 3381 belongs to the Triconex 3000 Series. This module provides high-integrity speed monitoring for critical machinery. Each Triconex 3381 contains three isolated electronic sets per channel. This design prevents a single failure from affecting other channels. The module converts voltage transitions into frequency (RPM) data accurately. Three Main Processors vote on the data before passing it to your application.

Technical Specifications

The Triconex 3381 delivers precise speed measurement for demanding conditions. All parameters follow the official datasheet.

Installation Guide

Follow these steps to install the Triconex 3381 correctly.

  1. Verify compatibility with the Model 2381 PI Baseplate before installation.

  2. Mechanically key the module to prevent improper insertion into the baseplate.

  3. Insert the Triconex 3381 firmly into the configured baseplate slot.

  4. Connect magnetic speed sensors to the six differential input points.

  5. Configure termination and pull-up resistors on the baseplate as needed.

  6. Set the number of gear teeth (1–255) in your application software.

  7. Apply power and check for any Fault indicator illumination.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

1. What sensors work with the Triconex 3381 module?
The Triconex 3381 works with magnetic speed sensors, active sensors, and open collector devices. It handles non-amplified and amplified magnetic sensors for turbines.

2. How does the Triconex 3381 handle sensor signal ringing?
Ringing on the input signal can cause extra transitions. The Triconex 3381 uses debounced edge detection, but you must ensure clean waveforms.

3. Does the Triconex 3381 support hot-spare configuration?
Yes, the Triconex 3381 fully supports hot-spare modules. This feature improves system availability without interrupting operations.

4. What does the Fault indicator mean on the Triconex 3381?
The Fault indicator identifies a channel fault, not a complete module failure. The Triconex 3381 continues operating properly with a single fault.

5. What is the maximum RPM for the Triconex 3381?
The maximum speed range is 32,000 RPM. The Triconex 3381 counts over 32,000 transitions per second at this speed.
