Honeywell CC-PAIM01 Low Level Analog Input Module – Technical Overview
The Honeywell CC-PAIM01 is a Low Level Analog Input module from the PMIO series. As an LLMUX IOP module, it supports up to 64 temperature input channels. For signal conditioning, this unit works with Honeywell PMIO LLMUX FTAs. Each FTA handles 16 channels of input. Two types of LLMUX FTA are available for different sensor needs. One FTA type provides 16 RTD inputs, while the other FTA type provides 16 TC or mV inputs. Because any FTA combination is allowed, you get a flexible mix of TC, mV, or RTD points.
Key Technical Specifications
Thermocouple and RTD input types are both accepted by the CC-PAIM01. Millivolt signals from -20 to +100 mV are also supported. In total, 64 fully isolated channels are available on this module. Isolation exists channel-to-channel, channel-to-PM, and channel-to-power supply common. Temperature points can be added in 16 point increments for convenience. Input scan rate is fixed at 1 second by the IOM. Nevertheless, maximum scan capacity reaches 64 channels per second. Channel bandwidth runs from 0 to 4.7 Hz (-3 dB).
Input Ranges and Protection
For TC only, the nominal input range is -20 to +100 millivolts. Maximum non-damaging continuous input for TC sits at -10 to +10 volts. For RTD inputs, the range expands to -1 to +2 Volts at 100 milliamps. Gain error stays very low at 0.050% of full scale maximum. Temperature stability for TC and mV inputs is ±20 ppm per degree C max. Similarly, RTD inputs also achieve ±20 ppm per degree C max. Long term drift measures 500 ppm over time. For TC inputs, input impedance reaches megohm levels at dc.
Noise Rejection and Accuracy
With respect to power system common, common mode voltage (CMV) is ±250 VDC or VAC RMS. This rating applies from dc to 60Hz. At 50 or 60 Hz, CMRR reaches 120 dB minimum. Maximum source impedance allowed is 1000 ohms. Channel-to-channel voltage tolerance is ±250 VDC or VAC RMS from dc to 60 Hz. For crosstalk from dc to 60 Hz, the specification is 80 dB. However, at the specific frequencies of 50 and 60 Hz, crosstalk improves to 120 dB. Meanwhile, NMRR at 50/60 Hz is 60 dB minimum. Line frequency integration offers a fixed selection of either 50 Hz or 60 Hz.
RTD and Thermocouple Support
RTD sensor excitation current is exactly 1 milliamp. Supported RTD types include Pt 100 ohm DIN 4376 (-180 to +800°C). Also supported is Pt 100 ohm JIS C-1604 (-180 to +650°C). Ni 120 ohm ED #7 ranges from -45 to +315°C, and Cu 10 ohm SEER covers -20 to +250°C. Many thermocouple types are supported by the CC-PAIM01. ANSI type J covers -200 to +1200°C, whereas ANSI type K spans -100 to +1370°C. ANSI type E ranges from -200 to +1000°C. For lower temperatures, ANSI type T covers -230 to +400°C. For high temperature applications, ANSI type B spans +100 to +1820°C. Both ANSI type S and R cover 0 to +1700°C. Japan type R' reaches 0 to +1770°C. Finally, millivolt types from -20 to +100 mV complete the support list.
Open Thermocouple Detection (OTD) Feature
Configurable OTD protection is included with the Honeywell CC-PAIM01. During each conversion, the module qualifies the sensor for open status. A resistance ≤ 1000 Ω guarantees no OTD trip. On the other hand, a resistance ≥ 1500 Ω guarantees an OTD trip. When OTD is active, the PV samples and holds within the same measurement window. An OTD cycle runs inside that window without extra delay. If the OTD result is negative, the PV propagates through the system normally. Conversely, if the OTD result is positive, the PV sets to NAN. At that point, the input channel sets a soft failure. This mechanism prevents inappropriate control action from invalid PV values. Best of all, PV sampling and reporting incur no added delays from OTD processing.
Cold Junction Compensation and Accuracy
All TC inputs receive compensation using a Cold Junction Compensation (CJT) device. Remote cold junction capability is also a supported feature. For Cold Junction Reference (CJR) accuracy, performance varies by temperature range. From 0 to +50°C, CJR accuracy is ±1.0°C max. From -20 to +60°C, accuracy becomes ±1.5°C max. TC linearization accuracy sits at ±0.05 Ω per degree C.
Installation and Wiring Guidelines
Maximum cable distance from IOTA to FTA is 1000 feet. For this run, use 16 gauge wire with two twisted pairs per FTA. RTD maximum lead resistance should stay below 15 Ω. Surge protection at sensor terminals meets EN 61000-4-5 standards. For industrial locations, this means 1kV line to line and 2kV line to ground. With the cable adapter option, surge protection for power and serial links uses the same standard. PMIO FTA models MU-TAMR04, TAMT04, and TAMT14 all work with the CC-PAIM01. FTA dimensions are 2.5 D x 4.9 W x 12.1 L inches. In millimeters, that measures 63.5 D x 124.46 W x 307.34 L.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Q1: Can the CC-PAIM01 mix RTD and TC inputs on the same module?
Yes, the Honeywell CC-PAIM01 supports any FTA combination. As a result, you can mix TC, mV, and RTD points across all 64 channels.
Q2: How does OTD protection affect scan speed?
OTD protection adds no delay to PV sampling and reporting. Therefore, the CC-PAIM01 completes OTD checks within the same 1 second measurement window.
Q3: What happens when an open thermocouple is detected?
When an open circuit is found, the PV sets to NAN and a soft failure occurs. Consequently, the Honeywell CC-PAIM01 prevents invalid values from reaching the control system.
Q4: What is the maximum cable length to the FTA?
You can run up to 1000 feet using 16 gauge wire. For each FTA, two twisted pairs are required for the CC-PAIM01.
Q5: Does the CC-PAIM01 support B type thermocouples?
Yes, the Honeywell CC-PAIM01 supports ANSI type B from +100 to +1820°C. Additionally, it supports J, K, E, T, S, R, and Japan type R'.
