Product Overview

The Allen-Bradley 1769-ECR is a right end cap module for the CompactLogix product family.
Rockwell Automation designed this module as a bus terminator for the FlexBus circuitry.
This module signals the end of the CompactLogix assembly to the controller.
The 1769-ECR is necessary to qualify any CompactLogix configuration.
Without this terminator, the system will not recognize the I/O assembly.
Consequently, every CompactLogix system requires one 1769-ECR at the right end.
It installs at the right side of the last module in the assembly.

Technical Specifications

Electrical Characteristics

Bus current draw equals 5 mA at 5.1V DC for minimal power usage.
Current draw at 24V DC is 0 mA since no field power is needed.
Maximum bus current draw reaches 5 mA at 5 volts DC .
Backplane current measures 1.4 Amps at 24 Volts for system calculation.
Power consumption equals 33.6 Watts for thermal planning purposes.
Power dissipation equals 7.5 Watts for heat load calculations.
The 1769-ECR draws very little power from the overall system budget.

Physical Characteristics

Weight is approximately 130 g (0.286 lb) for this end cap module.
Shipping weight is approximately 2 lbs for packaged transport.
Shipping dimensions measure 8 x 8 x 5 inches for box size reference.
Enclosure type has no rating (open style) for indoor installations.
The Allen-Bradley 1769-ECR uses an open style enclosure design.
This design ensures safety and adapts to various mounting conditions.

Temperature Ratings

Operating temperature ranges from 0 to 60 °C (32 to 140 °F) .
Storage temperature extends from -40 to 85 °C (-40 to 185 °F) .
The 1769-ECR is tested in cold, dry heat, and thermal shock environments.
North American temp code is T3C for hazardous location compliance.
IEC temp code is T4 for international hazardous area use.

Vibration and Shock

Operating vibration tolerance reaches 5 g from 10 to 500 Hz .
For DIN rail mounting, operating shock rating is 20 g .
For panel mounting, operating shock rating reaches 30 g .
Non-operating shock on DIN rail equals 30 g for transport.
Non-operating shock on panel mount equals 40 g for shipping.
Therefore, the 1769-ECR withstands typical industrial conditions.

Environmental Conditions

Operating altitude reaches 2000 m (6562 ft) for high elevation installations.
Relative humidity tolerance ranges from 5 to 95% non-condensing.
The Allen-Bradley 1769-ECR has no tolerance for direct sunlight.
UV radiation sources can damage the module over time.
For Zone 2 environments, install with IP54 protection as required.

Installation Guidelines

Installation Procedure

First, remove power from the CompactLogix system completely.
Lift the bus lever from its engaged position on the adjacent module.
Next, align the 1769-ECR along with the guide slots of the last module.
Gently push the ECR module until it sits adjacent and in line.
The module should be flush with the existing CompactLogix module.
Finally, engage the bus lever to connect the 1769-ECR to the system.
This action closes the FlexBus connection properly.

Troubleshooting Installation

If resistance is felt during bus lever engagement, stop immediately.
Inspect whether the 1769-ECR is properly aligned to the module.
Check that the guide slot is clean and free of debris.
Do not force the bus lever as damage may occur.
Remove and realign the Allen-Bradley 1769-ECR if needed.
Re-engage the bus lever once proper alignment is confirmed.

Important Warnings

The 1769-ECR must only be installed or removed with power removed.
Removal or insertion under power (RIUP) is not supported.
Doing so will cause controller errors and system stoppage.
This is especially undesirable for actively operating systems.
Always power down the entire CompactLogix assembly before working.
The 1769-ECR has no RIUP capability whatsoever.

Compatibility

The Allen-Bradley 1769-ECR works with both Series A and Series B.
It is compatible with all CompactLogix 1769 controllers and I/O modules.
Every CompactLogix assembly requires exactly one 1769-ECR .
The end cap must be the last (rightmost) module in the assembly.
No other module can be placed to the right of the 1769-ECR .

Regulatory and Safety

The 1769-ECR meets health and safety requirements for industrial use.
An open-type enclosure reduces the risk of fire and injury.
For Zone 2 hazardous environments, provide external IP54 protection.
The module has no built-in protection against UV radiation sources.
Install in suitable enclosures for outdoor or sunlight-exposed locations.
