Triconex 3301 Digital Input Module Overview
The Triconex 3301 is a Triple Modular Redundant (TMR) digital input module. It features 32 commoned points for field signal acquisition. Three isolated electronic channels independently process field data to the module. Each channel places processed data into an array for transmission. The MP requests and receives this array from its associated channel. All MPs vote on the data before passing it to the application. The Triconex 3301 supports a hot-spare module for online replacement. Mechanical keying prevents improper installation in a configured baseplate.

Maximum Input Toggle Rate: Less than 20 per second to maintain diagnostic fault coverage.
FVD Off State Glitch Duration: Less than 2 ms.
FVD Off State Glitch Magnitude: Up to 36% of test voltage.
FVD Off State Output Impedance: 0–5 VDC, greater than 100 kΩ.
Diagnostics and Fault Handling
The Triconex 3301 runs complete ongoing diagnostics for each channel. A detected failure on any channel turns on the Fault indicator. This indicator activates the system alarm automatically. The Fault indicator identifies a specific channel fault only. It does not indicate a complete module failure. The Triconex 3301 continuously verifies transition detection ability to the opposite state. This module operates properly with a single fault present. It may continue proper operation with multiple faults.
Compatible Baseplates
The Triconex 3301 works with these baseplate options:
Model 2301: Used for typical applications.
DI External Termination Baseplate: Used with Solid State Relay Input External Termination Panel for high-voltage applications. Also works with Model 9573-610 DI Hazardous Location External Termination Panel.
Installation Guide
Follow these steps to install the Triconex 3301 correctly:
Cut off all system power before beginning installation.
Verify the baseplate matches Model 2301 or the DI External Termination type.
Check the mechanical keying alignment on your configured baseplate.
Insert the Triconex 3301 module firmly into the designated slot.
Secure the module using its built-in locking mechanism.
Connect field wiring to the 32 input terminals.
Apply 24 VDC nominal power to the system.
Run a force-to-value diagnostic test to verify all channels.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
1. Can I replace the Triconex 3301 while the system runs?
Yes, the hot-spare feature allows online module replacement without any system shutdown.
2. What voltage range does this module accept as a valid On signal?
The Triconex 3301 accepts 15–30 VDC as the valid On region for digital inputs.
3. How fast does the module scan all 32 input points?
The ADC scan time is less than 1 millisecond for all 32 points combined.
4. What does the Fault indicator show on the Triconex 3301?
The Fault indicator lights up for a specific channel problem, not a complete module failure.
5. Which baseplate should I use for hazardous location installation?
Use the DI External Termination Baseplate with the Model 9573-610 Hazardous Location External Termination Panel.
