Product Overview for the MTL4041A Isolator
The MTL4041A is a single-channel isolator for separately powered 4/20mA transmitters. Firstly, it enables bi-directional transmission of digital communication signals. As a result, you can interrogate a smart transmitter from an operator station. In addition, a hand-held communicator (HHC) also works perfectly with this unit. Specifically, the MTL4041A places the transmitter in Zone 0, IIC, T4–6 areas. Moreover, it suits Div.1, Group A hazardous locations. Consequently, the MTL4041A simplifies loop power for both conventional and smart devices.

Installation Guide for the MTL4041A
Follow these steps for a reliable installation of the MTL4041A. Firstly, clip the unit onto a standard DIN rail in a safe area. For hazardous area wiring, connect the transmitter to terminals 5 (+ve) and 6 (-ve). In addition, connect a hand-held communicator to terminals 3/4 or 7/8. For the safe area, connect the control system input to terminals 9 (+ve) and 11 (-ve). Then, apply 24V DC power to terminal 14 (+ve) and terminal 13 (-ve). Finally, ensure proper grounding for maximum noise immunity.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) About the MTL4041A
Q1: Can I use the MTL4041A with a standard 4/20mA transmitter?
Yes, the MTL4041A works with both conventional and smart transmitters. However, you must set the safe-area load resistance between 0 to 600Ω for conventional types.
Q2: Does this unit support two-way HART communication?
Yes, it provides bi-directional transmission of digital signals. Therefore, you can interrogate the transmitter from a DCS or a hand-held communicator.
Q3: What is the maximum input voltage drop for the loop?
The MTL4041A has a maximum input volt drop of less than 6.2V. As a result, this ensures enough voltage for the connected transmitter.
Q4: Where can I place the transmitter with this isolator?
You can place a suitably certified transmitter in Zone 0, IIC, T4-6 areas. In addition, it also works in Div.1, Group A hazardous locations.
Q5: Why is my green LED not turning on?
Check the power supply voltage at terminals 13 and 14. Specifically, the unit needs 20-35V DC to operate correctly.
