The Allen-Bradley 25A-V2P5N104 is a AC adjustable-frequency drive — PowerFlex 523 for industrial control and automation applications.

Allen-Bradley 25A-V2P5N104 is a PowerFlex 523 AC adjustable-frequency drive rated 0.4 kW (0.5 HP) with 2.5 A continuous output current. It accepts 100…120V AC single-phase input and is housed in an IP20 NEMA/Open Type Frame A enclosure.

What maintenance engineers should know about the 25A-V2P5N104

This drive belongs to the PowerFlex 520-series platform and uses sinusoidal PWM control. Engineers can select Volts/Hertz, sensorless vector control or Economizer SVC to match the load. The standard interface module includes a keypad, potentiometer and LED display for local setup and diagnostics.

For serviceability, the drive is panel mounted and Frame A accepts DIN-rail or screw mounting. The IP20 open type suits installation inside a protective enclosure. An optional 25-JBAx kit raises the enclosure to IP30 / NEMA 1 / UL Type 1 when a guarded installation is required.

Key specifications

  • Input voltage: 100…120V AC, 1-phase
  • Input frequency: 47…63 Hz
  • Input voltage tolerance: -15 % / +10 %
  • Output power: 0.4 kW (0.5 HP) normal duty and heavy duty
  • Continuous output current: 2.5 A maximum at rated output voltage
  • Output frequency: 0…500 Hz programmable
  • Efficiency: 97.5 % typical
  • Operating temperature: -20…+50 °C without derating (vertical, IP20/Open Type); up to +60 °C derated; up to +70 °C with the 25-FANx-70C control module fan kit
  • Storage temperature: -40…+85 °C
  • Power dissipation: 27 W total at rated load and rated speed

How does the drive handle power quality and ride-through?

In oil and gas facilities, supply variations are common. This unit tolerates input voltage from -15 % to +10 % and input frequency from 47…63 Hz. It provides 100 ms power ride-through and at least 0.5 s logic control ride-through, so short interruptions do not immediately stop the process.

Protection features include a 200 % hardware overcurrent limit and a 300 % instantaneous fault limit. The drive also provides class 10 electronic motor overload protection according to NEC article 430 and is listed to UL 508C File 29572.

Installation and environmental considerations

Mount the drive vertically inside an enclosure that maintains pollution degree 1 or 2. Keep the ambient temperature within the published range for the chosen mounting method. For higher temperatures, the 25-FANx-70C fan kit extends the maximum surrounding air temperature to 70 °C in the vertical IP20 configuration.

The drive produces leakage current exceeding 3.5 mA AC and/or 10 mA DC in the protective earthing conductor. The earthing conductor must therefore comply with local regulations for high protective-earthing-current equipment. Also note that the drive generates harmonic current emissions; when operated on a public low-voltage network, the installer must ensure distribution network operator requirements are met.

Communication and integration

The built-in RS-485 DSI port on RJ45 terminal C1 supports Modbus RTU. Network parameters include C123 [RS485 Data Rate] from 1200…38400 bit/s (default 9600), C124 [RS485 Node Addr] from 1…247 (default 100) and C127 [RS485 Format] RTU 8-N-1 by default. Only pins 4 and 5 of the RJ45 connector are used for the network; the remaining pins must not be connected.

For EtherNet/IP, DeviceNet, PROFIBUS DP-V1 or PROFINET, the appropriate 25-COMM option card is required. PowerFlex 523 supports one communication option card without affecting the drive footprint. Integration note: wiring into these fieldbus networks may require an external gateway or connection module; confirm cables and gateways with PetroPartsOnline.

Maintenance and reliability in the field

Reliability starts with correct installation. Separate RS-485 network wiring from power wires by at least 0.3 m (1 ft) and cross only at right angles. Use termination resistors at each end of the network cable and add RS-485 repeaters for long runs or more than 32 nodes.

Inspect the drive periodically for dust buildup and fan operation, especially in hot or dirty environments. The drive is fan cooled; the optional control module fan kit supports higher ambient temperatures. For mission-critical installations, verify that the enclosure maintains the required pollution degree and that the ambient atmosphere contains no volatile or corrosive gases, vapors or dust.

Because the drive has no embedded Safe Torque Off function, follow the manufacturer's safety manual for any functional safety requirements. Please verify current lifecycle status and availability with PetroPartsOnline before ordering.
