Product Overview
The MTL4013 is a two-channel intrinsic safety repeater. This unit controls safe-area loads through solid-state outputs. Switches or proximity detectors in hazardous areas trigger the outputs. The MTL4013 also works with positive displacement flowmeters. Some turbine meters are compatible as well. Power and switch status appear on top-mounted LEDs.

Installation Guide
Follow these steps to install the MTL4013 correctly.
Power Down: Disconnect the 24V dc supply before installation.
DIN Rail Mounting: Clip the unit onto standard 35mm DIN rail.
Hazardous Area Wiring: Connect sensors to terminals 1-2 and 4-5.
Safe Area Wiring: Connect loads to terminals 7-8 and 8-9.
Earth Fault Option: Wire terminals 3 and 6 to MTL4220 if needed.
Power Connection: Apply 20-35V dc to terminals 13 and 14.
The MTL4013 requires no external programming. Each channel operates independently. Verify proper grounding before applying power.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
1. What types of sensors work with the MTL4013?
The MTL4013 works with NAMUR proximity detectors and mechanical switches. It also accepts signals from positive displacement flowmeters and some turbine meters. The sensor circuit must draw between 1.2mA and 2.1mA for proper switching.
2. Can I use the MTL4013 with a 3-wire proximity sensor?
No, the MTL4013 is designed for 2-wire NAMUR sensors only. Three-wire DC sensors require a different MTL product like the MTL4071. Using an incompatible sensor may damage the input circuit.
3. How do I enable earth fault detection on the MTL4013?
Connect terminals 3 and 6 on the MTL4013 to an MTL4220 earth leakage detector. This optional feature detects faults on either input line. The unit continues working normally when a fault occurs.
4. What is the maximum switching frequency of the MTL4013?
The MTL4013 operates from DC up to 5kHz. This makes it suitable for high-speed counting applications. Examples include turbine meters and flowmeter pulse counting. Do not exceed 5kHz or output response will degrade.
5. Why does my output stay on even with no sensor connected?
An open input circuit on the MTL4013 draws less than 1.2mA. This meets the OFF threshold condition. Check for wiring shorts or incorrect sensor wiring. A stuck output may also indicate a damaged input channel.
