Technical Specifications

The Honeywell CC-PAIL51 delivers exceptional measurement accuracy for low level signals. Each channel provides isolation from other channels and the power system. The input scan rate runs at 1 second for responsive process monitoring. Channel bandwidth is set at 0 to 4.7 Hz (-3 dB) for noise reduction.

Input Ranges and Accuracy

  • Nominal Input Range (TC only): -20 to +100 millivolts.

  • Maximum Non-Damaging Input (TC): -10 to +10 volts.

  • Maximum Non-Damaging Input (RTD): -1 to +2 volts at 100 milliamps.

  • Gain Error: 0.050% full scale maximum for precision measurements.

  • Temperature Stability: +/-20 ppm per deg C for both TC and RTD inputs.

  • Long Term Drift: 500 ppm over time.

  • Input Impedance (TC only): 1 megohm at DC.

Isolation and Noise Rejection

The CC-PAIL51 offers excellent isolation for harsh industrial environments. Common mode voltage reaches +/-250 VDC or VAC RMS from dc to 60 Hz. Common mode rejection ratio (CMRR) is 120 dB minimum at 50 or 60 Hz. Channel-to-channel voltage withstands +/-250 VDC or VAC RMS. Crosstalk rejection achieves 80 dB from dc to 60 Hz (120 dB at 50 and 60 Hz). Normal mode rejection ratio (NMRR) is 60 dB minimum at 50 or 60 Hz.

Environmental Specifications

  • Operating Temperature: -40°C to +70°C for harsh plant conditions.

  • Storage Temperature: -40°C to +85°C for warehouse storage.

  • Line Frequency Integration: Fixed selection of 50 Hz or 60 Hz.

  • RTD Sensor Excitation Current: 1 milliamp for accurate resistance measurement.

Cold Junction and Linearization

  • Cold Junction Compensation Range: -20°C to +60°C with +/-0.5°C typical accuracy.

  • TC Linearization Accuracy: ± 0.05 Ω per degree Celsius.

  • Open Thermocouple Detection: Each conversion qualified. ≤ 1000 Ω = guaranteed no-trip. ≥ 1500 Ω = guaranteed trip.

  • RTD Max Lead Resistance: 15 Ω maximum for reliable connections.

Supported Thermocouple Types

The Honeywell CC-PAIL51 supports seven ANSI thermocouple types. Each type covers a specific temperature range for different applications.

Type Temperature Range
J -200 to +1200°C
K -100 to +1370°C
E -200 to +1000°C
T -230 to +400°C
B +100 to +1820°C
S 0 to +1700°C
R 0 to +1700°C

The module also supports millivolt input from -20 to +100 millivolts for direct signal reading.

Supported RTD Types

The CC-PAIL51 supports four RTD sensor types with wide temperature ranges.

  • Pt 100 ohm DIN 4376: -180 to +800°C for European standard sensors.

  • Pt 100 ohm JIS C-1604: -180 to +650°C for Japanese standard sensors.

  • Ni 120 ohm ED #7: -45 to +315°C for nickel sensing elements.

  • Cu 10 ohm SEER: -20 to +250°C for copper sensing elements.

  • Cu 50 ohm SEER: -50 to +150°C for copper sensing elements.

Installation Guidelines

Follow these steps to install your Honeywell CC-PAIL51 module correctly.

  1. Verify IOTA Compatibility – Use the CC-TAIL51 9-inch IOTA termination assembly.

  2. Power Down the Rack – Turn off chassis power before inserting or removing modules.

  3. Align Module Guides – Slide the CC-PAIL51 into the designated slot carefully.

  4. Secure the Module – Tighten the top and bottom screws firmly to ensure proper grounding.

  5. Wire Field Devices – Connect thermocouples or RTDs to the IOTA terminals per the wiring diagram.

  6. Configure Each Channel – Set input type (TC, RTD, or mV) and line frequency (50 or 60 Hz) in Experion PKS.

  7. Apply Power – Turn on the rack power and verify the module status LED is green.

  8. Verify Readings – Check each channel’s process value for correct scaling and linearization.

Do not exceed 15 Ω of lead resistance for RTD inputs. Excessive resistance will cause measurement errors.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

1. Which IOTA works with the Honeywell CC-PAIL51 module?
The CC-PAIL51 requires the CC-TAIL51 9-inch IOTA termination assembly. Other IOTA models are not compatible with this module.

2. Can I mix thermocouples and RTDs on the same CC-PAIL51 module?
Yes. Each of the 16 channels is independently configurable. You can mix TC, RTD, and millivolt inputs on the same CC-PAIL51.

3. What happens if a thermocouple opens during operation?
The module detects open TC conditions automatically. Values below 1000 Ω guarantee no false trip. Values above 1500 Ω guarantee a trip indication.

4. Does this module work with Honeywell C300 controllers?
Yes. The CC-PAIL51 is designed for the Experion PKS C300 control system. It mounts in the same rack as C300 I/O modules.

5. How do I set the line frequency for noise rejection?
You select 50 Hz or 60 Hz in the Experion PKS configuration software. Match the frequency to your local power grid for optimal NMRR.

6. What is the maximum lead resistance for RTD sensors?
The maximum lead resistance is 15 Ω for accurate RTD measurements. Higher resistance will degrade reading accuracy.

Why Choose This Module?

The Honeywell CC-PAIL51 offers unmatched flexibility for temperature measurement. Its 16 isolated channels prevent ground loops and cross-channel interference. The per-channel configurability allows mixed sensor types on one module. The -40°C to +70°C operating range suits outdoor and unheated plant areas. The 120 dB CMRR and 60 dB NMRR reject industrial electrical noise effectively. Choose this CC-PAIL51 for reliable thermocouple and RTD monitoring in refineries, chemical plants, power stations, and pharmaceutical facilities.
