140ACI04000 Quantum Multirange 16-Channel Analog Input Module
Product Introduction
The Schneider Electric 140ACI04000 belongs to the trusted Modicon Quantum automation platform. This analog input module provides 16 differential input channels with multirange capability. You can configure each channel for 0-20mA, 4-20mA, or 0-25mA signals.
The module uses a 250 ohm input impedance and delivers multiple resolution options. For instance, you get 0-16000 counts for 4-20mA or 0-25000 counts for 0-25mA. Absolute accuracy reaches +/- 0.125% of full scale, making it suitable for precise process measurements.
Additionally, the 140ACI04000 includes built-in broken wire detection for 4-20mA loops. This feature greatly simplifies troubleshooting in field installations.

Compliance & Certifications
Standards: UL 508, CSA C22.2 No 142
Certifications: FM Class 1 Division 2, cUL
Marking: CE
ESD resistance: 4 kV contact, 8 kV air (IEC 801-2)
EM field resistance: 10 V/m at 80-1000 MHz (IEC 801-3)
Installation Guidelines
First, ensure the Quantum rack power is off before installing the 140ACI04000. Slide the module into any available I/O slot until the backplane connector seats properly. Secure it with the top and bottom retaining screws.
Next, wire your analog field devices to the removable terminal block. Each input channel accepts either 2-wire or 4-wire transmitters. For 4-20mA loops, the module provides loop power through the 250 ohm resistor.
Important wiring notes:
Use shielded twisted pair cables for analog signals
Connect cable shields to ground at the module end only
Keep analog wiring separate from AC power cables
Finally, configure the module using Concept or Unity Pro software. Set the appropriate input range for each channel. Then download your configuration to the Quantum CPU.
Addressing & Configuration
The 140ACI04000 requires 17 input words of addressing space. The first 16 words store the analog values (one per channel). The 17th word contains status information including broken wire flags and overrange indicators.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
1. Can the 140ACI04000 accept voltage inputs?
No. This module accepts current signals only (0-20mA, 4-20mA, or 0-25mA). For voltage inputs, consider the 140ACO13000 or 140AVI03000 modules.
2. What happens when a 4-20mA loop breaks?
The 140ACI04000 detects the broken wire condition. It sets the corresponding channel fault LED and updates the status word in the 17th input register.
3. How many of these modules can I install in one Quantum rack?
You can install up to the rack's slot capacity (typically 2, 4, 6, or 16 slots). However, ensure your power supply can handle the total bus current draw. Each 140ACI04000 draws 360mA from the 5V bus.
4. Is the update time the same for all 16 channels?
Yes. The 15ms update time applies to all channels simultaneously. The module scans all 16 inputs in parallel, not sequentially.
5. Can I mix different input ranges on the same module?
Absolutely. Each of the 16 channels on the 140ACI04000 can be configured independently. For example, channel 1 can use 4-20mA while channel 2 uses 0-25mA.
